René Magritte Flipbook

René François Ghislain Magritte (1898–1967) was a Belgian surrealist artist, who became well known for creating a number of witty and thought-provoking images. Often depicting ordinary objects in an unusual context, his work is known for challenging observers' preconditioned perceptions of reality. His imagery has influenced pop art, minimalist art, and conceptual art. In 1927 Magritte traveled to Paris, joining the surrealist group headed by André Breton. In his works of that time, Magritte deliberately moved away from the world of the unconscious and developed a type of surrealism based on the absurd association of objects that he painted with a photographic meticulousness.
